James' brother Dunwoodie, 6, and sister Nancy J., 1, are also listed. James is listed as having been born in PA. This census is dated 8 Jun 1860.

2 1870 United States Federal Census, Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, PA, Page 8, Lines 19-27 lists Lot Wilson, 39, married to NancyWilson, 41. They live with 7 children: son Dunwiddy Wilson, 15; son James Wilson, 12; daughter Mary Wilson, 11; son Henderson Wilson, 8; son Robert Wilson, 6; son William Wilson, 3; and daughter Mariah Wilson, age 9 months. Lot Wilson is a farmer, and Dunwoodie is "assisting on farm." Everyone else stays at home. Everyone was born in PA, though Nancy Wilson has a "father of foreign birth." Elizabeth is listed as having mothered 4 children, three of which are alive. The place of birth of James and his parents is listed as PA. James is listed as a Farmer and his son John is listed as a farm laborer. All members of the household are listed as being able to read, write, and speak English. James is listed as owning the farm with no mortgage.

His occupation is given as Farmer on his own land. His census record is immediately preceeded by that of his son, Bert Winiford Wilson, suggesting that they lived on adjacent property.

(John C. Stoughton and Mary Jane McCandless) became the parents of seven children...(including) Elizabeth, wife of James L. Wilson, of Brady Township; ...and Solomon R., whose name appears at the head of this sketch.
Solomon R. Stoughton ... has been largely devoted to agricultural pursuits, but for three years he ws engaged in operating a saw-mill and threshing-machine, in partnership with James L. Wilson. He also spent seven years in the oil fields.
