Source notes

  • The 1860 census, Butler Co. PA, was read page by page for the townships of Muddy Creek, Franklin twp. (including Prospect Borough), and inadvertently Parker Twp. John C. & Mary Stoughton were not found, but the census for Franklin Twp. available on ancestry.com began with dwelling # 232, so much of the Franklin Twp. census is apparently missing from that site. It is presumed that since Mary Jane McCandless Stoughton was in Franklin Twp. in 1850 & 1870, she was probably there in 1860 also. A different source for the 1860 census will need to be searched
