[edit] Immigrant 1752 from Ireland to America
ROBERT HOGE or Hogg was born Nov. 1721, a native of southern Scotland. Early in life he emigrated to County Down, Ireland. His wife Letitia was born in northern Ireland in June 1724. They were married in Ireland and at least their first child William was born there in 1751. They emigrated to America in 1752, when Robert was age 31 and Letitia age 28. By the spring of 1754 they located in the Tuscarora Valley, then in Cumberland County, now Juniata Co. PA. In June of 1756 Indian incursions along the Juniata forced the Hoge family to flee to Carlisle, where they stayed until fall of that year. Twice more they took refuge in Carlisle. Robert Hoge died on his farm in Juniata Co. 25 Jan. 1798, aged 80 years; Letitia survived him until 8 Mar. 1812. They are buried in the McKee graveyard.
Of their 7 known children, the 4 daughters and youngest son lived to maturity and married; two sons died in infancy. Our direct line ancestor is the surviving son, James Hoge.
