Source notes
- 1840 Census: the ages given for William and Lot indicate that they should be no more than 14 & 15 in the 1850 census, but are listed as 17 & 19; errors of 2 years are common in early census. No other plausible match for this family in the 1840 census could be found. Also on this census page is an entry for the John Wilson household: 1 male under 5, 1 male 30-40, 1 female under 5, 2 females 5-10, 2 females 10-15, 1 female 30-40. Two households separate James & John Wilson in the census report. No known relationship, though it seems plausible that James & John could have been brothers or cousins.
- 1850 Census: "John" is oddly scripted with a central letter extending downward (p, German s,?); it could be a corrupted attempt at daughter Tamson, but indicated as male. (Tamson was possibly married by 1850, to James Cratty. Their first child was born in 1851.) John may be the male age 15-20 in the 1840 census.
Conjecture
- Berks County PA at the time of James Wilson's birth included much of present day Schuylkill Co. Persons reporting their birth county in later years sometimes named the place as it was named later, and some named it as it was when they were born. Thus it would be possible for James Wilson to be a native of Berks Co., but to be living in Schuylkill Co. after its formation in 1811.
Research
Having real problems with this page. Can't find James and Mary in 1860, can't find a good 1840 census. Very little information on the children; some sources leave some out. The 1850 census seems to include bonus children that aren't mentioned elsewhere.
