2	1860 United States Federal Census, Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, PA, Page 14, Dwelling 93 lists James Cratty , 38, as a farmer married to Tamson Cratty, 31. They are listed as living with their four children: son James Cratty , 9; son (illegible T---field?), 7; daughter Martha J. Cratty, 6; and daughter Eleanor Cratty, 3. All were born in PA. The older three children attend school.
3	1870 United States Federal Census, Muddy Creek Twp, Butler Co, PA, pag 7. Census dated 7-8 July 1870. Biographical sketches of James Cratty, Sr., and of Thomas Cratty (oldest brother of James Cratty, Jr.): "James Cratty came to Muddy Creek township, Butler county, form the vicinity of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, early in the present century, and settled upon the land now owned by Joshua McCandless. He was accompanied to this county by his brothers, Robert and Thomas, and sister Rachel ...". He married 1st Mary Johnston, dau. of Bernard Johnston; 2nd Jane English. • Source 3, 1870 Census dated 7-8 July 1870: Daughter Permilla's age (6 yrs), suggests James Cratty, Jr. died after late 1863 at the earliest. As James Cratty is absent from this 1870 census, it is possible he died in the Civil War, but the war record shown as #R1, Research section, does not appear to be him.
• Research Note #R1, Civil War record, a James Cratty, Co. C. 102 Infantry, died 22 Nov. 1861 at Tennallytown, MD: This appears NOT to be James Cratty, Jr. of this website page. See Source 3, presumes James Cratty, Jr. alive in 1863.
• Source 4,1985 History of Butler County: We expect the James Cratty of this biography to be the father of James Cratty Jr. who married Tamson Wilson.
  James Cratty's first son Thomas also had a son named James (James A. Cratty), who could conceivably been referred to as James, Jr., but as Thomas was born in 1811 he is only 11 years older than the James Cratty, Jr. (age 38 in 1860/ born~1822) who married Tamson Wilson.
• Source 5, Gravestone of James Cratty, Mount Nebo Cemetery, Butler Co. PA. See photo on FindAGrave, (on a page for "James Albert Cratty, Jr., birth date listed as June 6, 1822, and as being wife of Tamson Wilson Cratty) we believe partially erroneous. FindAGrave page originated by Kurt Albert,& maintained by William Carlson. No source given for middle name "Albert"; we question whether James Albert Cratty may not in fact be the "James A. Cratty", son of Thomas Cratty. If so, James Albert Cratty would be a cousin of the James Cratty of this gravestone photo. The associated birth date of 1822 appears to be for James Cratty, Jr., not for James A. Cratty. Without documentation we believe that numerous Cratty family members named James are being confused in the records. The FindAGrave page also gives the death date for James Albert Cratty as the 1861 death date of the Civil War soldier James Cratty(see Research table below, source R1). This death date is too early for James Cratty, Jr., husband of Tamson Wilson & father of Permilia Cratty b. 1864. It may be the accurate death date for James A. Cratty; further sources needed to determine. Or there could be 3 James Cratty's at issue: James, Jr., James A., and the soldier.
