Conjecture

• History of the Counties of Berks and Lebanon by I. Daniel Rupp, 1844 Lancaster PA. p. 226 Longswamp township, "Mertztown, near the north-eastern corner of the township, is a small village, containing between twelve and fifteen dwellings, a tavern and store, a German Reformed and Lutheran church...". The spellings Marz and Mertz are found in the records, and are probably the same family.
