6 Page of Notes, apparently from Jacob Kennemuth's Bible, transcribed on p. 6 of The Kuhnemuths in America manuscript by Kermit Kennemuth. This manuscript forwarded to us by correspondence of Judy King
"Jacob Kuehnemuth was born the 20th of October, 1796. His father's name was John. His mother's name was Anna Elizabeth, maiden name Schinderwolf. In the year 1824 he married Dorothy Elizabeth Schinderwolf this being on the 30th of September. To them were born 8 children namely 5 sons and 3 daughters, of which two sons and one daughter died in earliest infancy - died in (illegible, but states town and country).
They left the place of their birth on the 25th of April of the year 1852 and lived four years , one month and 18 days in (illegible) about a half-hour from (illegible). They left their fatherland in 1856.
Two of their children went to this, their new fatherland four years before, namely the oldest daughter, Anna Catherine who was born the 27th of February 1827 and married to (illegible), and the oldest son, Conrad, born 21st of May 1837.
In addition there came with us into the new fatherland the following children: Anna Elizabeth born the 31st of March, 1832; Jacob Frederick born the 27th of January, 1840; and John Reinhard born the 1st of May, 1843.
We went aboard ship the 6th of May and landed on the 25th of June at Baltimore. On the 28th of this month we took the train and arrived July 2nd at Etna. We moved again from there and arrived in Clarion and ---moved to our new home in 1857 (month illegible)."
There follows a prayer, signed Jacob Kuehnemuth, and "I bought this Bible of John Clauss Huzfeld at (illegible) the 22nd of April, 1838. It cost one silver dollar."
7 The Kennemuths in America, manuscript of the research of Kermit Kennemuth.
8 History of Clarion County 1887, By Davis, p. xxix
"Kennemuth, John R., Fern p.o., Ashland, a farmer and oil producer, was born in Prussia May 1, 1843, and was a son of Jacob and Dorothea (Schinderwolf) Kennemuth, who settled in Ashland in 1856, on the farm which is now owned and occupied by John R. Their children were Catherine, Eliza, Conrad, Jacob, and John R. John R. was married in 1869 to Mary Fox, a daughter of John Fox, of Brady's Bend. They have had a family of six children - Edward, Willie, Frank, John, Ella and Frederick."
9 Personal correspondence from Elizabeth Wilson Williams, g-g-g-granddaughter of Anna Catherine Kenemuth.

Source notes

  • Frankershausen, Germany is today in County Eschwege, Hesse. It lies SE of Kassel about 15 miles
  • The calling card for Edward G Kenemuth, from the Calling Card Book of Elizabeth Anna Frederick suggests that Edward, son of John Reinhard Kenemuth, may have a middle initial "G". John Reinhard Kenemuth's brother, Conrad Kenemuth had a son named Edward E. Kenemuth. No additional Edwards are currently known from this era.
Similarly, the card for Wm. H. Kenemuth may belong to Willie, son of John Reinhard Kenemuth. No other William Kenemuth is known for this era.
