The ages and names are correct for William J and one of his sisters. Other sources indicate he married Christina Best in 1870, but she is living with her parents in July according to the census for Clarion Co.

"Kline, William J., Church P.O., Beaver, was born in Beaver Twp., PA on Dec. 15, 1846. He is a farmer and now owns and occupies a farm of 77 acres, and is also engaged in the oil business. He has been school director for several terms. His parents were Jacob and Susannah (Weter) Kline. W. J. Kline was married on Feb. 28, 1870 to Christina Best, a daughter of John and Margaret (Smail) Best, who came from Westmoreland county in 1804. They have three children - Ida L., Warren E., and Elmer S."

Extract: resided in Sedgwick, on Hanging Rock Pike, Lawrence county; died after illness of 4-5 yrs culminating in stroke/paralysis. Age 73; member Central Christian Church. Born in PA; moved to Lawrence Co. OH at age 23 where he remained till death. Resided in Sedgwick last 6 years. Survivors: wife Eliza Kline; 3 daughters Mrs Neva Daniels & Mrs Mary Ferguson of Ironton, Miss Dora Kline at home; brothers Chas. of Kansas City, George of Tennessee, Jack, Reuben & Wesley of Pennsylvania.

  • 1870 census John Best family, Christina age 17. This suggests Christina Best & Wm. J. Kline not married until after 30 July 1870.
  • Regarding the niece, "Lelestia" age 24 in the 1880 census, living with Wm J. Kline family, a search of the families of his brothers reveals only one daughter born in 1856, Susanna Franzina Kline b. 28 Oct 1856, daughter of Franklin Kline.
