1 | 1830 United States Federal Census Shenango Twp, Beaver Co, PA pg 15. Census is not dated. Family of Abraham How: 1 male <5, 2 male 5-10, 1 male 40-50, 2 feames <5, 1 female 40-50. This fits almost perfectly with the Abraham Howe in the 1840 census for Armstrong Co, PA and would work well with the 1850 census data showing Abraham, Barbara and Catherine Howe in Clarion Co, PA. There are extra children in both the early census. The direction of migration is unusual here. Beaver is west of Armstrong and Clarion counties. Also in this census: Slippery Rock Twp., Mercer Co. PA. Family of a George How age 30-40, (wife) age 30-40; 4 children: 1M & 1F aged under 5; 2M aged 5-10. This George How is likely a brother of Abram Howe. Abram had a son named Goerge who eventually resided in Mercer Co. PA. In 1930 Abram Howe was aged about 33 yrs; this George How was aged 30-40 yrs, with 4 children. |

2 | 1840 United States Federal Census,Toby Twp., Armstrong Co. PA. No date of census given. Abraham Howe age 40-50; (wife) age 50-60; children: 1M age 5-10; 1M&2F age 10-15; 2M age 15-20. These ages acomodate the presently known family members: Abram 42, Barbara 53, George 17, Catharine 10, Samuel 9. If this is the correct family, there are 3 more male chldren.
3 | 1850 Federal Census, Porter Township, Clarion Co. PA,pg 110, (from Ancestry.com; heading missing; no date of census) Abram How age 53, wife Barbara age 63, dau. Catherine age 20, son Samuel age 19. Abram born in PA, had a farm of 600 acres. |

They live with 5 children: son Hutchin Cline(sic), 6; daughter Mary A. Cline, 4; son John A. Cline, 3; son George H. Cline, 2; and daughter Barbara F. Cline, age 9 months. Henry is a farmer. Everyone was born in PA. Hutchin Cline attended school within the census year. This census is dated 27 Jul 1860.
5 | History of Venango County PA, 1890,Brown, Runk & Co., Chicago Vol. 1, p. 585. "Zion Church of the Evangelical Association was organized...(before 1844). Present place of worship erected in 1875...The present burying ground was given in 1850 by Joseph Disler and David Martz."
6 | Research Manuscript of Ella May Beals (Wilson) researched 1975-1985, including personal knowledge and interviews of her siblings Robert Beals and Bertha Beals (Chambers), and of her aunt Mary P. Kline (Fillgrove). Wording in her notes suggests the list of children & their birth dates may have come from Henry Kline or Anna Catherine Howe: "Our son, no name given, born Aug. 9, 1869 (Bubby)".

Source Notes
[1] The child listed as Hutchin in the census is almost certainly Hudson Kline; age and birth order matches exactly. However, the spelling of Hutchin is clear on the census page. This is likely an enummerator error, along with the alternative spelling of Kline as Cline.
Regarding the lack of an 1870 census entry: I've manually searched through all census records for the following townships: Ashland, Elk, and Salem Townships, Clarion County; and Union Township, Jefferson County. No sign of 13 year old John Abram Kline or his father's family.
Conjecture
- Apparently Joseph Disler, Catherine's 2nd husband, owned land next to that of a David Martz. In Lehigh County, Henry Kline's great-grandmother appears to have been a Marz. These two families appear to have co-migrated to Clarion/Venango border area of western PA.
