1	1830 United States Federal Census,PA Lehigh Co. Macungie Twp. (No. 4)-61 Family of John Kline. Lists 3 males under 5 yrs, 1 M 20-30 yrs, 1 M 30-40 yrs, 1F 20-30 yrs. This accounts for John Kline, wife Anna, and first 3 children Henry, Reuben, & Jacob. Another male age 30-40 living with them, possibly one of John's older brothers or a farm hand.
2	1840 United States Federal Census, Beaver Twp, Venango Co, BA pg 9. The census is not dated. Family of John Kline: 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 30-40, 1 female <5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 30-40. There are a few discrepancies on the ages of the children, but they are close. Also on the page is Jaoc Kline: 2 males <5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 40-50, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 30-40.

John Kline, 59 M Farmer, real estate value $1000, personal estate value $200; Ann Kline, 53F; Henry 33M; Rebecca 31F; Jacob 29M; Maria 27F; Catherine 25F; Susanna 23 F; James 18M; Elizabeth 14F; Sarah 12 F; William 10 M. All born in PA. Henry is enumerated at the home of his parents, although he is already married. He is also enumerated with his wife & children in Jefferson Co. PA. Rebecca Kline, born about 1829 is thought to be a distant cousin (see the Conjecture section, page of John Klein). Jacob is enumerated at his parent's home although he is (in 1900) reported to have married in 1855. Apparently both Henry & Jacob were visiting home, either because Rebecca was there, or to help out their parents on the farm.

All b. PA. Jacob Kline's age seems to have increased by 10 extra years.

Jacob Kline 48 shoemaker Christina 43 keeping house; can not read or write Children: John W., age 24, laborer, Sarah E., 16, at home, can not read or write; Thomas H., 13 at home; Cornelia, 9; Eric, 7; William O., 5; Naomi, 2. Thomas and Cornelia attended school in census year. Everyone (and all parents) born in PA.

Jacob Kline, head, born Oct. 1830, age 69, married 45 yr, Laborer unemployed 3 mos in 1900, rents house. Christina Kline, wife, born Apr. 1836, age 64, married 45 yr, mother of 14 children, 7 children living. Sarah E. Kline, daughter born May 1863, age 37, single. Charley Smith, grandson, born July 1888, age 11, single, in school. All (& all parents) born PA, all read, write & speak English.

Source notes

• The 1900 census reports both Jacob and Christina Klineto have been married 45 years,i.e. since 1855. The 1860 census enumerates Jacob at his parents home. In 1870 his wife's name is (erroneously?) listed as Catherine.
• As Sarah E. Kline does not on the 1900 census indicate any number of years married, and retains the Kline surname, it is assumed that the grandson Charley Smith is not hers but another sister's child.
