Hiram Milhausen

Hiram Milhausen appears to be the son of David Milhausen and Susan unknown (per 1860 census). The surname was Anglicized to Millison in some records; other sources indicate the original spelling to have been Muelheison. Hiram Milhausen married Martha Jane Wilson, and had at least one child. Martha Jane died at age 31 (1887) and is buried in Prospect, at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery. They may thus have lived in Franklin Twp., Butler Co. after marriage. Hiram's life after that point has not been traced. No gravestone foe him was found at Emanuel Lutheran, so it is possible he is buried elsewhere with a 2nd wife, or that he has no gravestone.

Source notes
- Per the gravestone inscription: Martha would be aged 52 yr. in 1887; while the inscription is unclear, we believe the unreadable portion, after the death date, is intended to be "in the 52nd year of her life". Only a portion of this is legible, but the "5" was transcribed. If the transcription is in error, if the "5" should be a "3", (i.e. age 32) then the date of 1867 transcribed by the Butler Co. Cemetery Inventory would be more likely correct. An early death in 1867 would account for having only one child, born in 1856.)
- The name Millhausen is also seen as changed to Millison, Millson, Millron.
- Neither Martha nor Hiram appears in the 1870 or 1880 Ancerstry.com registry search, under any of the name variations. Searching Muddy Creek Twp for Hiram or Martha gave no likely variants although there is a MArtha Gallagher with the right age and a daughter Mary in the 1870 census.
- The 1850 census not found for David Millison/Milhausen or Susan Millison/Milhausen, nor the 1870 census for Hiram Millison/Milhausen, by the Ancestry.com search engine.
Research
- Various spellings of the Milhausen name are seen: Milliron, Muelheison... Hiram Milhausen and Ruth Anna Muelheison were likely related, possibly cousins. No link has been found, although both families lived in Butler County (John Milliron & daughter Ruth Anna & family in Connoquenessing Twp; Hiram & father David in Muddy Creek Twp. Ruth Anna Muelheison married Jesse Wilson (brother of Martha Jane Wilson) and migrated to Scioto Co. Ohio; they are buried at Freeport OH in the Greenlawn Cemetery there. As Hiram has not been traced in Butler Co. after 1860, it is possible that he also migrated westward. There is a large Millirons gravestone at Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth OH, and transcriptions on the Greenlawn Cemetery website for two Millirons women of a later era: (Section D) Millirons, Marie Sept 19, 1909 - ____; Nora F. April 15, 1889 - Aug 29, 1980.
- According to the Vest, O'Roark etc. family tree on Ancestry.com, there is a David Muelheison, b. 1822,Butler Co. (no spouse listed), son of John Milliron & Elizabeth Buchle. He's a brother of Ruth Anna Muelheison, so not old enough to be Hiram's father. No David was found in the generation of John Milliron, Ruth Anna's father. One generation older, a John David Muelheison b. 23 Feb 1778 in Westmoreland Co. PA, married Barbara Cribbs (b. ~1780 in Germany), children, if any, not listed. His parents were John Philip Muelheison (1755-1836) and Anna Maria Barbara Altman (1759-?). John David Muelheison was a first cousin of John Milliron, so of the right generation to be the father of Hiram Milhausen; John David appears to have been about 52 yrs older than Hiram.

David Muelheison b.1822 - "Reproduction Map of Butler Co. 1858 Pennsylvania", by Violet Covert, pp 46-49, Connoquenessing Twp. index lists A. Millison and W. Millison. The survey map shows their properties near the northwest corner of the township, on Crab Run which flows into the Little Connoquenessing. Present day map indicates their land would have been just west of Rt. 528 on Harmony Rd. No Millison/Millron etc. are found in the Franklin Twp. index for the 1858 map. In Muddy Creek Twp. is found Daniel Milleron with property on the southern border of the township. This would have been about 2 miles northwest of the Millison properties in Connoquenissing Twp.
The Vest, O'Roark etc. website lists Daniel Muelheison (1800-1872), a brother of John Milliron whose daughter married Jesse Wilson.
