1	1850 United States Federal Census,Richland T., Clarion Co. PA, pg 187. Date of census 6 Aug 1850. At dwelling 197 is Esther Kline & 9 children including a Susanna Kline age 6. (This is the family of Philip Kline, deceased). Unknown whether this Susanna Kline is the same person as Susan Kline who married Billy Beals. The birth dates match within one year. Philip Kline was a brother of direct line ancestor John Klein.
2	1860 United States Federal Census,Richland T., Clarion Co. PA, Pg 5. Date of census 7 June 1860. Lines 13-14 list William Beals age 22, day laborer, value of real estate $200, personal estate $100; wife Susan age 17. Both born PA.
3	1870 United States Federal Census, Richland T. Clarion Co. PA, Pg 4, lines 15-19 lists William Beals age 30, laborer, value of real estate 400, personal estate 200, cannot write, citizen of US; Susan age 26 keeping house; children: James S. age 10, Annie E. age 8, Samuel age 2.

Lines 43-46 list William Beals age 62, born Jan 1938, married 40 yrs, farmer, owns farm free of mortgage, cannot write English; wife Susan age 37, born Nov. 1842, married 40 yr, bore 6 children, 3 living in 1900; son John age 27, single, born Aug. 1882, oil pumper; May Shoup, servant, age 27, single, born Jan 1873, housekeeper. All and all parents born PA; all can read, write, & speak English, except William cannot write.

Source Notes

• Duane Beals lists May Shoup (born 1873, married George Gilger) as a child of William Beals. The 1900 census lists her as a servant, housekeeper. The census further indicates only 3 living children of William & Susan; apparently the 3 listed above lived to marry. May Shoup appears to be unrelated.
• The 1860 census which shows Susan (Kline) age 17, married to William Beals, clarifies that this Susan is not the same as Susan Kline daughter of John Klein & Anna Fenstermacher; their daughter is living at home, age 23 in 1860.
