+ | Sarah Jane Kline was the 10th child of John & Annie Kline. In about 1866, at age 18 or 19, she married Joseph Mong who was about 6 years her senior. Four years later they had 3 toddlers of their own, were raising a 4 yr. old nephew of Joseph's, and had a single parent Catherine Huddleston and her two toddlers living with them. Over the next 30 years Sarah had 11 more children, six of whom died before 1900. Sarah's husband and a seventh child died by 1910. Sarah and Joe Mong owned a farm without mortgage by 1900, but in 1910 she was renting her home. The farm may have gone to one of the children.

+ | * Third child listed as Margaret E. Mong in 1870 census, age 2 mos., is not listed in 1880 census, but Susan E. Mong appears, age 10. This may be the same child, with name listed erroneously in one of the census. If they are two individuals, Susan would have been born by December 1870, a bare 8 1/2 months after Margaret's birth, and Margaret would have died before the 1880 census. If they were twins, both should have appeared in the 1870 census.
+ | * By 1870 the Mong household included 4 yr old Allison Mong, as well as 28 year old Catherine Huddleston and her 2 small children. We speculate that young Allison Mong and the two Huddleston children may have lost their fathers in the Civil War; that Catherine Huddleston may have been Joseph Mong's sister.
+ | * Allison is clearly listed in the 1880 census as a nephew in the Joseph Mong household. Allison's birthplace is listed as Illinois in 1870,1910,1920,1930 (but as PA in 1880 & 1900). Shreffler reports that one ancestry tree lists his birthplace as Peru (Peru, IL?). Additional Shreffler sources indicate Allison Wade Mong to be a son of David & Lilly Mong, married Ida Mae Mealy. Possibly, but "our Joseph Mong who m. Sarah Kline did have a brother David; however 1900 census list David & wife as having 3 children, all living; the 1880 census lists those three children, and none are Allison."
+ | * The 7 children who were deceased by 1910 include Margaret E., Susan E., Melvina, Matilda, Daniel, possibly Mary or Lizzie, or possibly a 14th child name unknown (if nephew Allison was not counted as the 14th).

Sarah Jane Kline was the 10th child of John & Annie Kline.

[edit] Source Notes
- Third child listed as Margaret E.
- By 1870 the Mong household included 4 yr old Allison Mong, as well as 28 year old Catherine Huddleston and her 2 small children. We speculate that young Allison Mong and the two Huddleston children may have lost their fathers in the Civil War; that Catherine Huddleston may have been Joseph Mong's sister.
- Allison is clearly listed in the 1880 census as a nephew in the Joseph Mong household.
- The 7 children who were deceased by 1910 include Margaret E., Susan E., Melvina, Matilda, Daniel, possibly Mary or Lizzie, or possibly a 14th child name unknown (if nephew Allison was not counted as the 14th).
