Jakob Speck (1754)
Jacob Speck apparently did military service in 1785. In the church records of Hitzerode he is noted as a "dragon,1785". The term "dragon" refers to a short musket, attached by a swivel to the belt and ornamented by the representation of a dragon's head at the muzzle. A soldier armed with such a musket was called a dragoon.

Source notes
It is not stated directly by Dr. Guenther, but at the 1785 baptism of Anna Margarethe Speck , her godmother (sponsor) was "Margarethe, widow of Johannes Becker". Since Anna Margarethe Speck's grandfather is Johannes Becker, it is likely that his wife's name was Margarethe, and that Johannes died before 1785. Apparently there were not found the direct church records to confirm this, beyond this baptismal record.
