12 Nana's Cookbook, Recipes from 1937 , 188 pgs. of recipes, by Jane Arletta McGinnis Black Donatelli, daughter of Myrna Beals & Bruce Thompson McGinnis, with introductory notes.
"My father (Bruce McGinnis) died when I was one year old leaving (mother) with three small children to raise." The author mentions brother Tom, sister Judy, growing up in Emlenton PA; an Uncle Norman; neighbors the Stewarts. Myrna was a private duty nurse. "(Emlenton) was filled with many older wealthy families that made their fortunes in oil. This used to be the richest little town in the United States." "When someone in town wanted a nurse, my mother was the one everyone wanted...She would nurse the same families through their old age and comfort them until the end."
This nicely organized cookbook or delicious comfort foods and food for entertaining includes a chapter of recipes for the "thrift cooker", a sort of slow cooker unit built into the range surface by some makers; and a chapter on coctails, of the fruit coctail, shrimp coctail sort.
Note: we have tried without success to contact the author by the email address published in the cookbook.
