From the 1865 Pomeroy map of Clarion County, segment of Salem Twp. just north of the border with Richland Twp. shows the farms of Jacob Beals, Nathan Biery (husband of Flora Ann Beals), and Benjamin Beals. This map indicates that the Jacob Beals farm lay in Salem Twp., rather than Richland. In fact portions of it lay in both townships.

Source Notes

  • Census record for Benjamin Beals family not found for 1860; the 1890 PA census is missing.
  • The source sequence [9][10][11]indicates research entered to this website by E W Williams from FTM file of Duane Beals, compiled originally by Margaret Kahle.
  • Per Duane Beals, George E. Beals and Edwin J. Beals are the same person, Edwin Jorge, who went by Jorge, with spelling changed to popular usage George. Also, the daughter A. M. L. Beals in the 1880 census is likely Mary Ellen Beals, born in 1871.
  • Regarding Slaughenhaup gravestone photos: Mary L. Slaugenhaup has same birth date as Benjamin's daughter Mary Ellen Beals Slaugenhaup; May Slaughenhaup on same stone may be her daughter. Gravemarker for Willard Slaugenhaupt: relationship unknown, possibly son of Mary L. Slaugenhaupt.
