  • Compiler Leonard Lytle includes "a copy of an original document belonging to Mrs. Lettitia A. Harnish of Alexandria, Pa. She is the granddaughter of Robert and Letitia Lytle. It was written by James McKee Lytle, their son. For five years prior to Lettitia Lytle's death in 1864 she was blind." Her statement: George McCullough came from Ireland to America prior to the Revolution....was drafted about 1774. (In Northumberland) he met with Jno. McKee and others from Tuscarora Valley, ...& there he met Sarah Hoagg, in 1775 whom he married, and resided there when he again was called into service, about 1776. , He served his time, returned home to farming, until again called out in 1778. Hugh Gray was with him in '78. Lettitia was born in Feb. '79, after his return from the war. He died in Sept. '84 leaving but two children living, Lettitia and Ann, the latter 2 years younger than the older. "My mother again married, a man the name of Hamilton Grimes, in the year of '89, by whom she had two sons and a daughter, named Robert, George and Jane, and lived on in Tuscarora Valley to her death in 1829 or 1830. I married Robert Lytle on 6th July 1802 and lived with him until August 1847 when he died at Hollidaysburg Blair County, Pa. My sister Ann McCulloch married Moses Sturgeon in 1800 and lived with him until 1850, when he died. She died in 1851, both died in Shelby County, Ohio."

Source Notes

  • Birth date of Anna McCullough as about 1781 is derived from the document belonging to Mrs. Lettitia A. Harnish, granddaughter of Robert & Letitia Lytle, being the statement of Lettitia Lytle, widow of Robert Lytle. (See source above "Descendants of Robert Hogg..." by Egle, footnotes by Leonard Lytle.) Lettitia Lytle, daughter of George McCullough, says in her statement that he left two children living (suggesting there may have been others who did not survive), Lettitia and Ann, "the latter 2 years younger than the older." Letitia McCullough was born in 1779 per the Egle source.
  • Birth dates of the 10 children are calculated by comparing the 3 census (1810-1830). Daughter Margaret is said to have been born in 1801. The census dates for birth of the first son are 1785-1804; we listed his birth date as 1800-1804 as the parents were married in 1800, and since Margaret was born in 1801, we listed the first son as 2nd in birth order. These are guesses, without documentation at this point.
