  • From The New York Historical Society Collections, an 1892-1902 volume features abstracts of wills on file in the Surrogates Office, City of New York, from 1665 to 1800. Peter Praa Van Zandt and Johanes Van Zandt are named as a grandson in the will of Capt. Peter Praa, dated 6 Aug 1739. Also named are his wife Maria, a daughter Elizabeth Meseroll (& a John Meseroll), daughter Annetie, wife of Daniel Bodee, a daughter Christiana Provoose.

William S. Pelletreau, member of the Society prepared the abstracts, and says of Peter Praa: Captain Peter Praa, the testator in above will, was the son of Peter Praa (or Praah), a French Huguenot, who fled to Leyden and from thence to New Amsterdam in 1659, and died there March 6, 1663.
