2 | 1850 United States Federal Census, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, PA, Page 317, lines 7-13 lists James I. Hoge, 54, married to Margaret Hoge, 53. They are listed as living with five children: daughter Martha Hoge, 22; son Thomas Hoge, 20; daughter Elizabeth Hoge, 17; daughter Sarah Hoge, 11; and son John I. Hoge, 9. James and Thomas are listed as farmers. Everyone was born in PA. Sarah and John are listed as having attended school in the census year. The next family listed on this census page is that of James and Margaret's eldest son, Archibald Hogue, 32, suggesting that they lived on adjacent property. This census is dated August 9, 1850. | |
3 | 1860 United States Federal Census, Brady Township, Butler County, PA, Page 14, lines 15-18 lists James I. Hoge, 64, married to Margaret Hoge, 64. They are listed as living with two children: son John I. Hoge, 20; and possibly a grandaughter Cardalia Hoge, 4. James I. Hoge is a farmer. Everyone was born in PA. 4 | 1880 United States Federal Census, Brady Township, Butler County, PA, Enumeration district 30, Page 5, lines 17-25 lists George Gibson, 35, married to Mary E. Gibson, 35. They live with a smattering of relatives: George Hines, 54, brother of Mary E. Gibson; Eli Hines, 50, brother of Mary E. Gibson; Elzirak Robison, 18, sister-in-law of Mary E. Gibson's sister Eleanor Jane Hines; Idie Robison, 10, sister-in-law of Mary E. Gibson's sister Eleanor Jane Hines; Michael Gibson, 30, unknown relation but likely a brother of George Gibson; widow Margaret Hoge, 85, listed as a "mother in law," though this is most likely referring to her being a "grandmother in law" to the next entry: Margaret Douglas, 29, granddaughter of Margaret Hoge. Margaret Hoge and Margaret Douglas are listed as living in a separate but adjacent house to the rest; I have listed them together because of the somewhat close relationship they share in their descendancy. Margaret Hoge's grandson, Isaac C. Wimer, would eventually marry a neice of George, Eli, Elzirak, and Idie—Margaret Jane Robinson.
George Gibson is a farmer; Eli and Michael work on the farm as well. George Hines has no occupation and is listed as mamed, crippled, or otherwise bedridden. Both of the Robison girls attended school within the census year. George Gibson and his parents were born in Ireland. Michael Gibson and his parents were born in Scotland. Mary E. Gibson and her parents were born in PA. George Hines was born in PA along with his mother, his father was born in Ireland. Elzirak and Idie Robison and their parents were born in PA. Margaret Hoge was born in PA, her parents were born in Ireland. Margaret Douglas and her parents were born in PA. This census is dated 10 Jun 1880. |
