8 Manuscript of John T. Wilson researched 1975-1985, including personal knowledge and interviews of McDeavitt cousins and of his aunts Stella Wimer (McNeese), Lizzy Wimer (McDeavitt), Meda Wimer (McDeavitt), and Mary Gahagan. John T. Wilson recorded that his gr-gr-grandfather's name was "Urvin Hogue", a name possible given to him verbally by one of his aunts, along with the information that he was a surveyor. The actual spelling is "Irvin", as he was named for his mother's family.
The manuscript of John T. Wilson lists Elizabeth Hogue (7-19-1832 to 1-18-1906) married to Samuel Wimer, Jr. (1825) as his great-grandparents.
9 The Wimer Familyby Paul W. Myers, p.7
Samuel Wimer, Jr. (b. 1829, d. ~1910) m.Elizabeth Hoge(b. 1832, d. ~1910), a daughter of James J. Hoge (error: see source notes), Deputy Surveyor of Butler County. Lists 5 children: Elizabeth Wimer (b.1853) m. Warren McDeavitt; Eleanor Wimer (b. 1856) m. James Q. Alexander (1849-1932); Isaac L. Wimer (1858-25 Aug. 1942) m. Margaret Robison (1864-30 Apr 1950); George Wimer (1859-~1889), age 30, never married; Margaret Wimer (b. 1861).
Samuel Wimer, Jr. was born on his parents' original homestaead on 1st Donation District Lot No. 160. He moved to the "John Bell" tract which his grandfather purchased in 1832. At his maturity, his father gave him a portion of the "Grant's Reward" tract near Mt. Union. After marriage he purchased (on 12 Feb. 1873) 74 acres 76 perches in Worth Twp. where they lived until their deaths.
10 Personal correspondence from Elizabeth Wilson Williams, daughter of John T. Wilson. "The family knowledge from John T. Wilson was that his gr-grandmother Elizabeth Hogue was a child of "Urvin Hogue", a surveyor. Paul W. Myers reports that her father was James J. Hogue, a surveyor. In the census records of their era, capital "J" and capital "I" look identical in some script, so it is presumed that Paul W. Myers mistook James I. Hogue for James J. Hogue. It is presumed that John T. Wilson heard "Irvin" and recorded "Urvin". The research manuscript of Dr. Egle on the Hogg/Hoge family of Tuscarora Valley PA reports that James Irvin Hoge was a child of James Hoge and Mary Irvin. Butler, A Pictorial History, by Stephen M.Pozar & Jean B.Purvis, reports that James I. Hoge was a surveyor who laid out the town of West Liberty. From this accummulation of data, we conclude that Elizabeth Hogue was a child of James Irvin Hogue/Hoge, a son of James Hoge and Mary Irvin.

Source notes

  • Paul W. Myers reports that the father of Elizabeth Hogue was James J. Hogue. In the Hogue census records, capital "J" and capital "I" look identical, so it is presumed that Paul W. Myers mistook James I. Hogue for James J. Hogue. James Irvin Hogue was named for his mother, Mary Irvin.
