Isaac L. "Ike" Wimer is remembered by his grandchildren as a quiet undemonstrative person. In addition to farming, he did some logging, was a carpenter and built barns. He, like many men of that era who were injured by the heavy outdoor work, had to wear a brace for hernia. His farm was situated in a valley created by a creek that ran from a wetland area to the east, through their farm and toward Jacksville. Near the house was a good spring. The ground around the house may have been marshy in springtime; Ike covered the ground around the house with large rocks. He had a well-built barn and wagon shed, and fields that sloped down the hillsides toward the barn and house. Near the spring grew a large poplar tree. On the 4th of July, the family and grandchildren would gather at the farm for a picnic and family reunion.

Source notes

  • Isaac Wimer's middle initial appears as "C" on his gravestone. However, his WWI draft card lists his full name as Isaac Lawrence Wimer. His name appears as Isaac L. Wimer in his obituary, and in "The Wimer Family" by researcher Paul W. Myers. Note that his only son is named Lawrence.
  • Paul W. Myers lists a Margaret among the children of Isaac L. Wimer & Margaret Robinson Wimer. John T. Wilson, their grandson, in 1980 said that he had not had an aunt Margaret, and believed it to be an erroneous listing. The 1910 census reports that Margaret Wimer (wife of Isaac) gave birth to 8 children, 7 of whom were living in 1910, so the child that died must have been the Margaret that Paul Myers reports. Per Ruth McNees Brown, daughter of Stella Wimer, said the younger Margaret "wasn't a child but a young adult at death".
