Samuel Wilson
The birth date and perhaps the parentage of Samuel Wilson is somewhat unclear. He first appears in the 1860 census at age 13, living in the household of Jesse & Ruth Anna Wilson, and with a Margery Wilson who is a bit older than Jesse & Ruth Anna. In 1850, Jesse Wilson was still living with his parents in Butler Co. PA. He appeared to be single although the census doesn't indicate marital status.
In the 1900 census, Samuel reported his birth date as 1845, and that he and both parents were born in Ohio. In 1870, Samuel reported his birthplace as Ohio. The earlier 1860 census however has Jesse, Anna, and Samuel all born in PA, and the as yet unknown relative, Margery Wilson, born in Ohio.
It is possible to speculate that Margery Wilson was the wife/widow of a cousin of Jesse Wilson, and Samuel could have been her son, later adopted by Jesse and Anna. In the 1900 census, Anna reports bearing 1 child; this may have been the simple answer to avoid explanations. The other possibility is that Samuel's birth year was not 1845, but sometime after 1850. Perhaps he moved it back a bit to appear older than he was, as he was younger than his wife.
We are unable so far to find Margery (Marjorie/Margaret etc.) Wilson in other census years, or Samuel Wilson in the 1850 census.

- In northern Scioto County OH, Valley Twp lies east of the Scioto River and Morgan Twp west of the river. Lucasville appears to be in Valley Twp. From the 1870 census (Samuel Wilson at Lucasville, Morgan Twp., and the 1880 census (Jesse Wilson at Lucasville, Valley Twp.), both families probably lived near the Scioto River, in the Lucasville P.O. area.
