- The 1850 census for Franklin Twp, Butler Co, PA (page 26) has: Jane McCandless, widow, age 40, $2000 real property, and children John, 19 (farmer), Mary, 17, Moses, 14, Joshua, 10. They live adjacent to a family headed by James M. McCandless. The two listing prior to that are Joseph Hockenberry and William Hockenberry. Jane's age is wrong and the children don't match with other sources.
