Johannes Becker was the father of Anna Catharina Becker. She married in Hitzerode in 1775 to Nicolaus Bernburg. As a widow in 1785 she married again to Jakob Speck. When the daughter of Anna Catharina Becker and Jakob Speck was born, named Anna Margarethe Speck, her godmaother was "Margarethe, widow of Johannes Becker". From this it is assumed that this Margarethe was her grandmother, the wife of her grandfather Johannes Becker. Nothing more is known of Johannes Becker at this time. It is expected that he lived in the region around Hitzerode or Kammerbach in Hesse, Germany.

1 Research of Dr. Kurt Guenther, parish at Albungen where the registers (after 1804) of Hitzerode are preserved. (Older registers, since 1626, preserved at Frankershausen). Johannes Becker was the father of Anna Catharina Becker. She married in Hitzerode in 1775 to Nicolaus Bernburg. As a widow in 1785 she married again to Jakob Speck. When the daughter of Anna Catharina Becker and Jakob Speck was born, named Anna Margarethe Speck, her godmother was "Margarethe, widow of Johannes Becker". See full text of report, Kurt Guenther Research, Church Records of Frankershausen & Hitzerode, Germany
2 Personal correspondence Wilda DeHart, 1992-ongoing; descendant of Mary Frederick and Will Dietrich; contracted Dr. Kurt Guenther to research church records in Hitzerode, Germany.
3 Personal correspondence from Elizabeth Wilson Williams.

[edit] Source notes

At the 1785 baptism of Anna Margarethe Speck , her godmother (sponsor) was "Margarethe, widow of Johannes Becker". Since Anna Margarethe Speck's grandfather is Johannes Becker, it is likely that his wife's name was Margarethe, and that Johannes died before 1785. Apparently, direct church records to confirm this relationship were not found, beyond this baptismal record.
