David was the middle brother in the first set of three brothers, nephews of [[John McCandless]] and Jane Carothers, who immigrated in 1796, from Ireland to Butler Co. PA.  David settled in Franklin Twp., on a tract of land later known as the Henry Albert farm.  He had married in Ireland to Martha, surname not recorded.  At least two of his children were born before he immigrated. Ferree (source 2) suggests he may have returned to Ireland to marry.
