The last will and testament of James Hoge of Slippery Rock Township, Butler County. In the name of God, I James Hoge, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory, (blessed be Almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) first I bequeath to each of my son Robert Hoges children one dollar. Second I devise to my son James I. Hoge his heirs and assigns all the ballance of the tract of land on which we now live ___ (my undivided part thereof) after paying my just debts, funeral expenses, and the sums left in this will to each of the other heirs and William as herein after described a small part of the same land. Third I devise to my son William Hoge out of my part of the above mentioned land to him His heirs and assigns forever beginning at the (4 acres?) corner of Mathew Adams tract running sutherly along said Adams line twenty five perches then easterly of parallel to the lines of the said tract until it strikes Richard Hindes line thence northerly to the land of the said William Hoge thence westerly along said line to the place of beginning be the same more or less. Fourth I bequeath to my son Thomas Hoge whatever may be coming to me be the same more or less from a piece of land of which I hold a part in Juniata County, Torbet township when this same is sold or settled. Lastly my son James I Hoge is to have all the remainder of my estate real or personal and I make and ordain the said James I. Hoge executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day January one thousand eight hundred thirty-eight. James Hoge
Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named James Hoge to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

Personally appeared before me the subscribed Register for the probate of wills and granting letters of administration in and for said County, James McKee one of the subscribing witnesses to the within will and being duly sworn according to law deposeth and saith that he was present at the house of James McKee on the 20th day of January 1838 and saw the said James Hoge subscribe his name to the within will publishing it at the same time to be his last will and testament and that he appeared to him to be of sound mind memory and understanding and that he at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other subscrived his name as witness thereto. Sworn and subscribed before me this 16th day of September AD 1841. Joseph M. (Tuesbony), Registrar.

Personally appeared before me the subscribed register for the probate of wills and granting letters of Administration in and for said county David McKee one of the subscribing witneses to the within will and being duly sworn according to law deposeth and saith that he was present at the house of James McKee on the 20th day of January 1838 and saw the said James Hoge subscribe his name to the within will publishing it at the same time to be his last will and testament and that he appeared to him to be of sound mind memory and understanding and that he at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other subscribed his name as witness thereto.
