Dorothy DeLay

Dorothy DeLay's ancestry is connected to ours as follows:
Susan Myer and Barnard V. Stoughton were parents of Jennie S. Stoughton. Jennie Stoughton married William George Osborn. Their daughter,Cecile Osborn, married Glenn A. DeLay of Neodesha KS. They were parents of Dorothy DeLay, Nellis DeLay, and Glenna Louise DeLay.

Dorothy, born 31 Mar 1917 in Medicine Lodge, KS, became a world renowned professional violinist, teaching at the Juilliard School in New York City, at Sarah Lawrence College, at the New England Conservatory, and at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She studied at Michigan State University and the Oberlin Conservatory, and became the assistant of the famed 20th century violin teacher Ivan Galamian before establishing her own teaching studio and founding the Stuyvesant Trio (1939-42)with her sister Nellis. Her students include many of the outstanding violinists of the 20th century. She died of cancer in NYC at age 85, on 24 Mar 2002.
