NOT A DIRECT ANCESTOR

Arminta E. Beals is not in my direct ancestry. She is 1 step removed in the following ways:

Minta Beals Dittman, cropped.jpg

Arminta E. Beals, known as Minta, or Aunt Mint, was born 18 March, 1883, to James Francis Beals and his second wife Olive Samantha Bower, on a farm near the high point of Richland Township, Venango County, PA. She had one younger sister, Florence Beals, born in 1884, a younger brother James Elgie Beals, born in 1889, and two older step-siblings, Charles and Bernice, from James Francis Beals’ first marriage to Adeline Kribbs. When Minta was eleven years old her mother died in childbirth, and the baby died also. Arminta married Joe Dittman, had ten children, and lived to be 79 years old. One of her daughters, Elva Dittman, married Lindsey Renfrew and they bought the old Bert Wilson farm in Nickleville.

Minta & Joe Dittman with unknown group.jpg

In this image, Joe Dittman and Minta Beals (Dittman) are the 2nd & 3rd figures from the right. The house is that of Minta's parents, at the James F. Beals farm, and not the Dittman house. Thus we expect that the other unidentified persons are related to Minta Beals. Costumes appear to be about turn of the century (1900). Minta & Joe were married in 1901, so distant family may be visiting the newlyweds. The dark stylish clothes and hats suggest perhaps Minta's "city" cousins from Pittsburgh, possibly Frederick, Beals or Bowers.

Miss-labeled Liz Ashbaugh.JPG

This photo from the Donald Dittman & Minta Beals collection, was labeled "Liz Ashbaugh", but the facial bone structure is not hers. Is this possibly Minta Beals' mother, Olive Samantha Bower?
