The older female children do not match exactly, but it is possible that one of the sons had married. This might explain the young children since Joshua and wife are a bit old by now.

The 1810 census shows Joshua Burton's family living next to Issac Burton. The Issac Burton family has: 1 male <10, 2 males 16-25, 1 male >45, 2 females 16-25, 1 female >45. This could be Joshua's parents.

Conjecture

The 1800 and 1790 census show Issac Burton in Guilford and Rowan Counties. These counties were originally part of the same county (Rowan) Guilford was split off from Rowan and then Randolph from Guilford.
In 1790 the family consisted of 2 males >16, 5 males <16 and 5 females. In 1800 there were 3 males <10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 male >44, 2 females <10, 1 female 10-16, 2 females 16-26, and 1 female >45.
