Working alone to install roof timbers at the mine entry, he was was "killed instantly" by a cave-in of slate. The accident and his body were not discovered for some hours. - The relationship of Margaret Hockenberry, wife of Jacob B. Stoughton, to our direct line Hockenberry ancestry is at present unknown. Her mother, Sarah Hockenberry, was age 77 in 1880 and apparently a widow. (see 1880 census above)
