The age of the oldest female agrees with the 1850 census for Elizabeth Lowder, and the female 0-5 could be Eliza or her sister Lunda. Also on the page are the following Lowder families: Henry Lowder: (2 males 5-10, 2 males 15-20, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 50-60, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 30-40. William Lowder Jun.: 1 male 20-30, 3 females 0-5, 1 female 20-30. William Lowder Sen.: 1 male 20-30, 1 male 80-90, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 80-90.**Three other families headed by Lowders are in the same census district (George Lowder on p. 15 (oldest male 40's), Samuel Lowder on p. 25 (oldest male 30's), and Danniel Lowder on p. 35 (oldedest male 40's). All three families include females in their 30's. **In this census, 3 other Lowder families are found in North Carolina, 2 in Cabarrus Co, and one in Guilford. The likely relationships here are that William Lowder Senior is the father of Henry Lowder who is the father of the younger Lowder families living nearby. Stanly County was formed in 1841 from the part of Montgomery County West of the Pee Dee River.

Source notes

• The relationships here are not firmly established. The marriage record indicates that the Names of L. Brady Lowder's parents were Eliza and Edmond and that Edmond was deceased as of 13 June 1894. Eliza Lowder is found in the 1880 and 1870 census with sons James and Ledocus/Lawrence (which could be L. Brady although there is no other evidence for this) and Joshua (1880 only). In the 1860 and 1850 census Eliza is living with her mother Elizabeth Lowder along with a sister, Lunda/Landa/Lundy.
• Edmond Lowder does not appear in any of the Ancestry.com indices for the years 1880, 1870, 18860 or 1850. An Edmund Lowder is found in Stanly County, NC in the 1880 census, but he is too young (b. 1873) to have been L. Brady's father.
• 1900 census records for Eliza Lowder could not be located using the Ancestry.com index.
• The son with whom Eliza Lowder is living in 1910 is Joshua, based on census data from 1920 (not copied here).
• A number of possibilities can be supported by the James Edman Lowder death certificate. Since the father is listed as "not known", it is probable that Eliza Lowder was never married. This could mean that the three sons had the same or different fathers. The name Edmond Lowder given on the marriage license application as father of L. Brady Lowder could be a totally made-up name, a name derived from his older brother James Edman, or it is possible that the father's first name was Edmond and the license clerk assumed the Lowder. Since North Carolina did not maintain birth records until after 1900, it would appear that this line will be difficult to follow further unless a church record can be located that indicates the father.
