One member of the family is employed as a farmer. This census is not dated.

2 1850 United States Federal Census, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, PA, Page 312, lines 17-22 lists Samuel Wimer, 53, married to Betty Wimer, 53. They are listed as living with four children: son Samuel Wimer, 22; daughter Mary J. Wimer, 20; son Abner Wimer, 19; and son George Wimer, 16. All of the men are listed as farmers. Betty was born in Ireland, everyone else in PA. Samuel Sr. is listed as unable to read or write. George is listed as having attended school in the census year. This census is dated August 6, 1850.

3 1860 United States Federal Census, Worth Township, Butler County, PA, Page 77, lines 26-30 lists Samuel Wimer, 66, married to Elizabeth Wimer, 66. They are listed as living with two children, son Abner Wimer, 26, and son George Wimer, 24; as well as a girl named Sarah E. Hodgen, 9. It is unclear what Sarah's relationship to the Wimer family is. All of the men are listed as farmers. Abner is listed as owning his own property (in addition to Samuel). Everyone except Elizabeth was born in PA; Elizabeth was born in Ireland. This census is dated 6 Jul 1860.

4 1870 United States Federal Census, Worth Township, Butler County, PA, Page 8, lines 17-21 lists Samuel Winer, 77, married to Elizabeth Winer, 79. They are listed as living with two children, son Abner Winer, 36, and son George Winer, 34; as well as a "domestic servant" named Sarah Heiddleler[?], 18. Samuel and Abner are listed as farmers. George is a "farm laborer." Abner is listed as owning his own property (in addition to Samuel). Everyone except Elizabeth was born in PA; Elizabeth was born in Ireland. Both Samuel and Elizabeth list both of their parents as being "of foreign birth." Samuel cannot read or write. This census is dated 21 Jun 1870.

5 Index to the Compiled Military Service Records for the Volunteer Soldiers Who Served During the War of 1812, National Archives and Records Administration. Samuel Wimer served in the 28th Regiment of the PA militia. He was inducted as a private and discharged as a private. Roll box: 232, Roll Exct. 602.
6 History of Butler County Pennsylvania 1895, page 1240, indicates that Christopher Wimer came from Adams Co., PA, to Butler Co., PA in 1798 and settled in Worth Twp. He married Miss Snyder of Adams Co., and together they had seven children named Samuel, John, Peter, Jonathan, William, Isaac, and Rebecca. Rebecca married Thomas Kelly. Christopher's son Samuel Wimer was born in Adams Co. in 1792. He died in 1873. He married Elizabeth Hines, daughter of Richard Hines, and had four children: Samuel of Worth Twp., Mary J., deceased wife of James Abinett, Abner, and George. At the time of this publication (1895), Samuel Jr. was living with his brother George on the 210 acre farm they inherited from Samuel Sr.

Samuel Wimer lived in Lancaster previous to 1798, but in that year he and his father started on horseback for this county. They located a farm in this township purchased from William Elliott, a surveyor and land agent. The place is now occupied by the widow of John Pisor.

8 Hines Genealogies 1751-1941 by Mrs. W. R. Hines, p.2 Richard Hines (1751-1854) & wife Jane unknown (1756-1843) had nine children, two of which are direct line ancestors: Richard Hines, Jr. (1782-1876) m. Elizabeth Brandon; and Betsy Hines (1790-1882) m. Samuel Wimer.
