Immigrant 1800
Elizabeth "Betty" Hines was born in the 1790's, in Ireland, daughter of Richard Hines and wife Jane. In about 1800, she was brought by her parents to America in about 1800. She was a young child when the family immigrated with five of their children. Her older brother and sister remained behind in Ireland for at least a while. The Hines family settled in northwestern Butler County, PA, living in Muddy Creek, Slippery Rock and Worth townships. Richard Hines was a farmer, as were the Wimers. Betty met and married Samuel Wimer, probably in the early 1820's. Their first child, named Samuel after his father, was killed in childhood when a heavy fence rail fell on him. Over the next ten years four more children were born, the second one also being named Samuel Wimer, Jr.
