* Mertz church, Rockland Twp (immediately south of Longswamp Twp). Records published, see 1988 booklist, Berks Co. Genealogical Society p.1.  Also, a Mertz Road runs northward crossing the boundary between Richmond Twp. & Maxatawny Twp, west of the town of Lyons. These 2 townships lie just west of Rockland and Longswamp Twps.

Daniel Rupp, 1844 Lancaster PA. p. 226 ''Longswamp township'', "Mertztown, near the north-eastern corner of the township, is a small village, containing between twelve and fifteen dwellings, a tavern and store, a German Reformed and Lutheran church...".
