Wayne A. Chambers, 92, of Kossuth, went to be with his Lord at 9:25 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009.
Born Alfred Wayne Chambers on Feb. 25, 1917, in Williamsburg, Blair County, he was one of 10 children to the late Ross A. and Emma C. Anderson Chambers.
He was married Sept. 7, 1943, by the Rev. B.E. Coleman at his residence in Franklin, to the former Bertha I. Beals. The two celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past September.
While growing up, Mr. Chambers worked in the coal mines and for many area farmers. He was stationed in Germany will serving with the United States Army during World War II.
He worked as a constable for Ashland Township for 36 years and was also a well known carpenter. He and his brothers, Sam and Roland, built many homes in the area.
Mr. Chambers also worked for Howard Fisher of Fisher Builders and he and his wife drove school buses for the Keystone School District for many years.
In 1979, he retired from Wagner and Hartle. After retiring, he built many trailers and converted golf carts into dune buggies, trucks, trains, cars and even a forklift.
Along with his wife, Mr. Chambers traveled across the United States and to Europe. In recent years, he enjoyed dominoes and watching television, especially Pittsburgh Pirates games.
He was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland Township, Clarion County.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Ken Chambers and wife, Linda, of Union City, Helen Best and husband, Wayne, of Shippenville, Don Chambers and wife, Julie, of Kossuth and Lois McMarlin and husband, Zane, of Oil City; 10 grandchildren, Anne Chambers Hill, Rachel Chambers, Andrew Chambers, Stephen Chambers, Darcy Best Shovestull, Sabrina Best Donetelli, Janelle Chambers, Eric Chambers, Doug Wagner and Michelle Wagner Cramer; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by three sisters, Alice Weaver Stine and husband, Bill, of Oil City, Violet Alden Morrison of Seneca and Dorothy Shay Whitting and husband, Jack, of Knox and Fayette, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Chambers of Cranberry and Dixie Chambers of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Roland Chambers, Edward Chambers, Ernest Chambers, Samuel Chambers, Ethel Swartzfager and Charlotte Stumpner.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendehall Ave. in Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Sue Evans officiating.
Interment will follow at the Ashland United Methodist Church Cemetery.
