Immigrated 1729, ship Allen

Susanna Margaretha Ranck was born in 1707, in Mannheim, Germany. Her father was born in Paris; her mother was of Dutch-German origins. Persecution of the Protestants in the France of Louis XIV had brought the Ranc family to Germany in 1785, to the Hugenot community in Mannheim, and there Susanna was born. When she was 18-20 years old, she married, perhaps twice. The records of the Schneader family record her marriage in about 1727 to Johan Christian Schnaeder, and with him she immigrated to America in 1729 on the ship Allen. From Philadelphia they progressed to Lancaster Co. PA and settled initially in Weaverland, in Earl/East Earl Twp. Later they re-settled on 133 acres located south of present-day Terre Hill, Earl Twp., purchased from sons of William Penn.
Records of the Ranck family show her married in 1725, in Mannheim, to Johann Valentin Weinkraus. If these two sets of records are indeed for the same person, then Mr. Weinkraus must have died shortly after their marriage. Since the Ranc family of Paris had immigrated to Mannheim in 1685, it is possible but not highly likely that two Susanna Margaretha Ranck individuals would marry within a couple years of each other. Until further information is available we are assuming there was a first, short-lived marriage, before she married Johan Phillip Schneder and left for America.

R-1 Biographical Annals of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, pg. 447, biography of David W. Ranck, his ancestors & descendants.
Mention is made of his parents John Ranck (b. 1811) & Elizabeth Weidman; his grandfather John Ranck; great-grandfather Andrew Ranck; and great-great-grandfather the immigrant in 1740 Philip Ranck, of German & Swiss parentage, who took the oath of allegiance to King George in 1760. As this Ranck family immigrated in 1740, about13 years after Margaretha Ranck Snader, to Lancaster Co. PA, to Earl Twp., it is likely that they are related in some way to our Ranck family.
