Resident of Holland

The surname Couvert is possibly of French Huguenot origin, the family taking refuge in Holland where the name became Covert. Other speculation, based on usage of the family in New Amsterdam & New York, is that Covert is derived from Ceovorden, or Koevorde, a fortified town in the Province of Drenthe, Holland. See Notes on Covert Surname for additional information.
