John (Jack) D. Williams, age 94, of North Myrtle Beach died December 8. He was born in Charlotte, NC on October 19, 1915 to John and Corina Williams. He married Gretchen Carriker on November 12, 1943 and they enjoyed a 66-year marriage (She survives). His three sons survive: John of Savoy, IL, Jerry of Yucca Valley, CA and Timothy of Schenectady, NY. He had two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He graduated from Charlotte Central High School. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942. He graduated from the Coast Guard Academy as ensign and was on patrol in the North Atlantic during World War II achieving the rank of lieutenant-jg. Mr. Williams returned to Charlotte and worked in management positions, concluding his career as controller at Associated Grocers Mutual. He became a resident of North Myrtle Beach in 1982. Jack was a life-member and life-deacon of First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach and taught Sunday school. He enjoyed representing the Coast Guard in patriotic programs. He was a member of Kings Karpenters, a group that assisted residents in lower income housing. He received WBTW-TV13's "Giving Your Best" award in April 1996. Most of all, he was dedicated to his family. He was active, enjoying yard work, shopping, cooking and crossword puzzles until suffering a brain aneurysm on October 30. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Friday, December 11 at First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach, Dr. John Gambrell officiating. His ashes will be interred in a private ceremony. Arrangements are by Lee Funeral Home, Little River.
