This is a scan of the will of Jacob Beals, Jr., signed 4 Jan 1877. It names his wife, Clarissa[?] A. Beals, his parents Jacob Beals and Elizabeth Beals, as well as Olive Samantha Bower, who would later become the second wife of his brother, James Francis Beals.

WILL OF JACOB BEALS, JR.

I Jacob Beals of the township of Beaver, County of Clarion, and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory, and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making ___ all former wills by at any time heretofore made. ___first I direct that my body receive a decent and Christian burial; and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and (situation)in life and hereby direct my executor hereafter named to…a…marble monument ..tombstone on my grave to mark my last resting place and hereby set apart the sum of Three Hundred Dollars for that purpose.

..As to ---estate as it hath pleased God to (mark) me with I dispose of the same (as following)

First I gave and bequeathed to Olive Samantha Bower out of my personal estate the sum of Two thousand dollars in (manner) following if at my death she shall not have arrived at the age of twenty one years I direct my executor to pay to her yearly the sum of one hundred and twenty dollars being the sum at interest on the said sum of Two thousand Dollars and on her attaining the full age of twenty one years to pay to her the full sum of the legacy or bequest.

Second to my beloved wife (Clarisa?) A Beals I give and bequeath one half of the remainder of all my personal property of what …or Kind…………………… at the time of my death.

And further order that my share of what goods or chattels she brought to me from her home she shall (retain).for her use such furniture, books, clothing, bedding, kitchen and tools …and household goods……direct my executor Hereinafter names to set the same apart for her without any change to her share as hereinafter mentioned nor in any way or manner to be construed as forming part of the estate to be distributed.

Third out of the other half of the remainder of my personal property I give and bequeath to my beloved father and mother Jacob and Elizabeth Beals each the sum of One Hundred Dollars.

Fourth I give and bequeath to my brothers Benjamin, William, Hiram,, Levi F., and James F. and my sister Flora Ann Biery all the (remainder and )… of my …

Fifth all the oil that may be produced on (property)………………………….

By me I hereby ………………

Divided and distributed as follows..I give and bequeath one (half) of the income to my wife (Clarissa) A. Beals. And the other half share be equally divided between my brothers and sister(s)…………………………………………………………

Shall (after?) come to my father and mother together until the (entire) farm shall be disposed of or sold as hereinafter provided.

Sixth I hereby authorize, direct and empower my Executor hereinafter named to sell the farm I now live upon and any and all real estate I may own or hold title to at the time of my death for the best possible price and as soon after my death as shall be deemed by (him) for the best interests of the estate committed to their care and to make execute and deliver a good and sufficient deed for the same.

Seventh the proceeds arising from the sale of any real estate after paying or promising for the payment of the legacy …bequeathed to Olive Samantha Bower shall be distributed and divided in the manner mentioned in the (fifth) paragraph of this my last will and testament.

Eighth in case of the death of any of the legatees heretofore mentioned then his or her share shall be paid to the legal heirs of the same. Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint Levi F Beals and george F Kribbs the Executors of his my last Will and Testament and direct annual settlements to be made according to its (…).

In witness whereof I Jacob Beals the Testator have to this my will written on one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this fourth day of January AD one thousand eight hundred and Seventy seven.
