Portrait of attendees to the 80th birthday party for James Francis Beals, in 1926. He is standing in center left, a tall man in a dark suit with a white shirt forming a visible "V". To his left (to the right in picture) and slightly ahead of him in a white dress with rounded collar is third wife, Elizabeth Rhoades Ashbaugh. To his right (to the left in the picture) is a young woman with darker hair and dark scoup-necked dress, unidentified but based on her position in the photo, possibly his daughter by first marriage, Bernice. To his left (to the right in picture)in a dark coat is his first son, Charles Beals. His son by second marriage, James Elgie Beals, is visible directly over his right shoulder. Florence Beals is to the right of Charles and behind the young person in the long dark tie.
Elgie's wife, Winnifred May Kline is in the second row, 2nd from right in dark dress with a white button. Two of their children are in the picture: Bertha Irene Beals in front row, 8th from right. (Of the two little girls in dark dresses, Bertha is on the left, shorter, blonder; Dorothy Sheffer is on the right). Ella May Beals is standing in the second row, directly behind Bertha, also in a dark dress. Branfield sheffer is in the front row, 5th from right, with shorts and dark hose, and a long bow tie.
Four children of Arminta Beals (Dittman) are in the picture. (Ruth) is in the left side of the photo, second row, with blond hair and a checked dress, visible between the 4th child (a girl) and 5th child (small boy in dark suit) in front row. (Elvie) Dittman is standing just behind and to the right of Ruth, taller & dark-haired. To Elvie's right is an unidentified person with a dark tie, and then two more Dittman children. ( Dittman identifications are tentative).
The first woman at right of 2nd row, next to Winnifred May Kline, may be Melvie Adams, wife of Frank Adams, (friends whose farm was near that of James Elgie Beals).
These identifications were made by Bertha Beals (Chambers) in June 2007.

Photo from the collection of James Francis Beals' son, James Elgie Beals; now of great-granddaughter Elizabeth Wilson Williams. Photographer unknown; date probably 1926.
