EXAMINING SURGEON'S CERTIFICATE (3-808)
IN THE CASE OF AN ORIGINAL APPLICANT
No. of Application 452246
State Penna CountyClarion Post Office Clarion Feb 8th 1882.
I hereby certify That I have carefully examined Joseph Mitchell, late a Private, Co. B, 169 Reg't, Pa Vols in the service of the United States, who is an APPLICANT for an invalid pension by reason of alleged disability resulting from Pleurisy of left side & disease of Heart.
In my opinion the said Joseph Mitchell is one half incapacitated for obtaining his subsistence by manual labor from the cause above stated. Judging from his present condition, and from the evidence before me it is my belief that the said disability did originate in the service aforesaid in the line of duty. The disability is permanent. A more particular description of the applicant's condition is subjoined:
Height 5 ft 5; weight, 145; complexion, Fair; age 46; pulse 90; respiration 20.
I have carefully examined Joseph Mitchell. I find no plurisy, but has valvular disorder of heart causing when he labors or excercises much fainting & (dizziness?) falls down is not able to do but little active exercise...(illegible). is not able to do half a days work of an active kind.
James (Ross?)
