    DECLARATION FOR WIDOW'S PENSION
    State of Pennsylvania
    County of Clarion}SS:
    On this Sixth day of November, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and ninety-Seven, personally ppeared before me a Notary Public of teh Borouth of Edenburgwithin and for the county and State aforesaid. Susan Mitchell, aged 55 years, a resident of the township of Ashland, county of Clarion, State of Pennsylvania, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Joseph Mitchell who enlisted under the name of Joseph Mitchell at Clarion, on the 22nd day of October A.D. 1862, in Co. B. 169 Regiment Pennsylvania Vol. Infantry and served at least ninety days in the late War of the Rebellion, in the service of the United States; who was Honorably Discharged in July 1863, and died October 17th 1897. That the soldier was not in the Military or Naval service of the United States except as above stated. That she was married under the name of Susan Kline to said Joseph Mitchell on the 11th day of October 1860 by Rev. Bachtel, at Salem township Clarion Co. there being no legal barrier to said marriage. That she was not remarried since the death of the said Joseph Mitchell. That she is without other means of support than her daily labor. That the names and dates of birth of all the children now living under sixteen years of age of the soldier are as follows: (all blank). That she has heretofore applied for pension and the number of her former application is have made no former application. That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890. (Line re. appointment of lawful attorney is blank and lined through.) That her post-office address is Kossuth county of Clarion, State of Pa.

    Also personally appeared W. M. Clover residing at Knox , and John Cotherman, residing at Fern, persons whom I certify to be respectable adn entitled to credit and who, being by me duly sworn, say they wre present and saw Susan Mitchell claimant, sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and an acquaintance with her of 20 years and 20 years, respectively, that she is the identical persons she represents herself to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.     Sworn to and subscribed before me this sixth day of November AD 1897, and I hereby certify that the contents of the above declaration, etc. were fully made known and explained to the applicant and witnesses before swearing....and that I have no interest, direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim.     Clarion Co SS: - I S.S. Laughlin Clerk of the Orphans Court in and for the County of Clarion, and State of Pennsylvania, do hereby certify that it appears of record in my office, that Joseph Mitchell late of Ashland Township, Clarion County Pa, died on the 17th day of October A.D. 1897 at Ashland Tp, in said County aforesaid. and was intered at St. Marks Cemetery on the 20th day of October 1897.     State of Pennsylvania, County of Clarion}SS:
    In the pension claim of Susan Mitchell No 665,273 widow of Joseph Mitchell Co B, 169 Pa Inft. I, I. J. Keck Clerk of the County Commissioner of the county of Clarion, in the State of Pennsylvania do hereby certify that I have carefully examined the Records of Assessments of real and personal property in and for Ashland Township in said county and of which I am the lawful custodian, and find the assessments and valuations therein recorded against property standing in the name of Mrs Joseph Mitchell for the years hereafter designated, to be as follows, to wit:
