Anna Grebenstein

Anna Grebenstein is a tentative Direct Line ancestor. There is a Claus Schindewolf married to an Anna Grebenstein in the Frankershausen church records. Their daughter Anna Eliesabeth Schindewolf was born in 1773. Our Jacob Schindewolf, birthdate unknown, married Dorothea Rehbein who was born in 1769. Jacob Schindewolf and Anna Eliesabeth Schindewolf appear to be the same generation, and to both have fathers named Claus Schindewolf. It is therefore possible that Anna Grebenstein is the mother of Jacob, son of Claus Schindewolf.
The mother of Jacob Schindewolf is not known conclusively however. Claus Schindewolf, husband of Anna Grebenstein, may have had more than one wife. Also, in a town where half the families were named Schindewolf, there may have been more than one Claus Schindewolf of the same generation. Claus the husband of Anna Grebenstein and Claus the father of Jacob Schindewolf may not be the same person.

This research was commissioned by Judy King in 1991. Entry #806732 in the protestant Church Records, and the Marriage License Bureau at Frankershausen. Claus Schindewolf married Anna Grebenstein. Their daughter was Anna Eliesabeth Schindewolf b. 22 Oct 1773, baptized 24 Oct 1773. Anna Eliesabeth married on 22 April 1796 to Johannes Kuhnemuth (b. 29 Sept 1771), baptized same day, goddfather Johannes Kuhnemuth, "the brother of the father". Johannes Kuhnemuth d. 15 Nov 1833. The parents of Johannes Kuhnemuth were Klaus Kuhnemuth and Dorothea Schindewolf. Johann Claus Kuhnemuth born 18 Aug 1809 in Frankershausen, bapt. 20 Aug 1809, godfather was furhman (wagon driver) Johannes Claus Schindewolf.
