Research

I had originally based this page off of this census entry, because the names fit. It wasn't until later that day that I realized that the dates make no sense. In theory, Adam Shulz' daughter Margaretta Schulz is born around 1850. The 1910 census, below, suggests that Adam is born in 1847, which seems unlikely.

Ref. Num. Description Image of original
0 1910 United States Federal Census, Brooklyn Ward 24, Kings Co., NY, Enumeration District 653, Supervisor's District 2, Page 1, lines 26-29 lists Adam Schulz, head of household, white male, age 63, married once, current marriage has lasted for 42 years. His wife, Anna E., is 64, married once, current marriage has lasted for 42 years. She has had two children, both of which are still living. Their daughter, Elizabeth Shulz, 34, single, lives with them. Also present is a servant named Helene Oelburg, white female, 19, single. Adam and Anna were born in Germany as were their parents. Elizabeth was born in New York. Helene was born in Austria, as were her parents. Adam immigrated to the United States in 1864 and is listed as a naturalized citizen. Anna immigrated in 1862. Helene immigrated in 1896. Everyone reads, writes, and speaks English. No one has an occupation other than Helene, who is a servant. Adam's means of income is listed as "Own Income." Adam owns his house without a mortgage and has 19 farm schedules(?). They live on St. Marks Avenue. The census page is dated April 16-18th, 1910.

All I had to go on for a few generations in this line was a list of names collected from Peter N. Robinson. I hadn't yet populated any information on Margaretta Schulz yet when ancestry.com suggested this census entry for Adam, so I went with it. Mistake. For now I consider Adam Shulz to be only a candidate name for this position in the family tree with no backup.
