No additional source for this middle name has been found. This site states that John and Sarah are both buried in Elmwood Cem. Charlotte; that Ed Hyland holds a copy of their marriage license; that Robert Smith research notes Sara Jane's maiden name was STEWART and that her mother, Elizabeth Stewart, was born in Ireland.

The first three children exactly match name and birthdate for the three children reported for William McDowell Herron and Sarah Byrum. Since William McDowell Herron is reported to have died in 1829, and Sarah Herron is reported as ahead of household in the 1830 census, this would appear to be a second marriage for Sarah. Also on this page, lines 1-8 are the family of John Byrum. John Byrum is reported (but not confirmed) to be the grandfather of Sarah, and had a son John of approximately the correct age.
