NOT A DIRECT ANCESTOR

Johan Jacob Klein is not a direct ancestor, and no relationship has been established. He apparently immigrated with his father Philip Wendel Kleinalong with Johannes Klein, whom we believe to be our ancestor, on the ship "Phoenix" in 1744, and all settled in Lehigh County, PA.

Johan Jacob Klein was born in Germany and arrived with his father, Philip Wendel Klein on the ship "Phoenix" in 1744. He was not included in the list of men on the ship, being only eight or nine years old.
From Pennsylvania records, the family settled in Weisenberg township, Northampton County, this township eventually becoming part of Lehigh County. Johan Jacob grew up there and on Nov. 10, 1761, received this property from his father. He married Anna Eva while in Weisenberg township and their first child, Maria Magdalena was born in May of 1767. The child was baptized soon afterward at the Ziegel(brick) Church with his parents as sponsors. Eventually, several of his family members, including his parents, would be buried at the Ziegel Church cemetery. In 1769 Jacob is reported to have sold the homestead and moved to Salisbury township, Lehigh County. Salisbury township does not show him on the tax rolls of 1772, and the record of him in Pennsylvania seems to end.
In 2021 James Funkhouser made available to us research on Johan Jacob Klein and Anna Eva neé Dusong in Frederick County, Virginia. We believe this holds convincing evidence that the Johan Jacob of PA and VA are the same, but a couple sources report conflicting data. The sources for Pennsylvania and Virginia will be presented separately, and Mr Funkhouser's accompanying notes are included. Note that some sources are under copywrite restrictions.
The charts on this page utilize data from both PA and VA.
