5 | Gordy Stith website at http://www.gordy-stith.com/genealogy.htm. The middle name Williamson, for John Williamson Herron, comes from this site. No additional source for this middle name has been found. (Note: Murphy Whisnant reports that John W. Herron's name is sometimes seen in sources as only "William", thus making the Williamson middle name less likely.)
The Gordy-Stith site states that John and Sarah are both buried in Elmwood Cem. Charlotte; that Ed Hyland holds a copy of their marriage license; that Robert Smith research notes Sara Jane's maiden name was STEWART and that her mother, Elizabeth Stewart, was born in Ireland. | |

R2 | Mecklenburg County Marriage Bonds,by groom, pg. 105. Heron, J. W. married to M. J. Stewart, bond date 21 June 1865, bondsman H. S. Barkley; witness S. A. Harris. Married 21 June 1865 by John F. Butt, M. G. This may be the source of the conjecture that John W. Herron married a Stewart. If the husband of of M. J. Stewart is John Williamson Herron, our direct line John W. Herron may have a different middle name.
