| '''1910 United States Federal Census''', District 118, Steel Creek Twp, Mecklenburg Co. NC, page 35. Census dated 3 May 1910.
Lines 45-50: John E. Brandon, head, age 30, mar. 6 years, farm labor, house farm, b. SC, father SC, mother NC; Bell, 24, wife, mar. 6 years, 2 children, both living, b. NC as were parents; Connie N, dau, 4, b. NC; Myrtle E., dau., 1 month, b. NC; Dory Plummer, uncle, age 40, single, farm labor, b. NC as were parents, can read, write and speak English; Josephine Torrence, dau., age 4, b. NC, father b. NC, mother b. SC. The family lives on Wright's Ferry Road.
The notation is unclear on the page as to whether Josephine is Dory's daughter. There seems to be different residences noted for both Dory and Josephine, but it seems unlikely that a 4 year old would be living alone. Dory is listed as single, not as a divorced or widowed manThe age for Dory agrees with the 1910 census for Dare Plummer, but not with the 1980 and 1970 census for Theodore. The implication is that Dee Brandon is a daughter of one of Theodore Plummer's sister, and that Josephine Torrence is a daughter of Dory who bears her mother's last name.

* The relationship between Dory (Dare) Plummer and George Plummer is uncertain. There is no indication of a son born in 1870 on the 1870 or 1880 census, but Theodore, born about 1864 could be the right person. The 1900 census lists Dare as a son of George. The data suggest strongly that the George in these census is the same person, but he seems to have moved from Long Creek to Steel Creek. However, the Ancestry.com indexing for the 1900 census lists George Plummer as b. 1853, which would be more consistent with the 1820 George Plummer's son. This suggests that there is some uncertainty about whether George Plummer senior lived as long as 1900.
+
* The names Dory, Dare, Theodore, and possibly T. Newton Plummer appear to apply to one person. The father George Plummer was illiterate, so the age given at census varies by about 8 years, the birth date thus calculated as being between 1862 and 1870.

Source notes

 • The names Dory, Dare, Theodore, and possibly T. Newton Plummer appear to apply to one person. The father George Plummer was illiterate, so the age given at census varies by about 8 years, the birth date thus calculated as being between 1862 and 1870.
 • The data suggest strongly that the George Plummer in the census shown here is the same person, but he seems to have moved from Long Creek to Steel Creek. However, the Ancestry.com indexing for the 1900 census lists George Plummer as b. 1853, which would be more consistent with the son of George Plummer born in 1820 . This suggests that there is some uncertainty about whether George Plummer senior lived as long as 1900.

Conjecture

1: Source: United States Federal Census for 1840 and 1850:
 • 1840 census: In looking for evidence of George Plummer in 1840, I located a Plummer family in Southern Davidson Co. with a male in the appropriate age category (20's). The family is that of Philemon Plummer: 2 males 20-30, 1 female 20-30.
 • 1850 census: Philemon is in Davidson Co., with wife and children; the other male in his 30's is no longer in the household. Philemon is 38, indicating that he would be the older of the two (brothers ?) who appear in the 1840 census. It is possible that George Plummer lived with his older brother in 1840, then moved to Western Mecklenburg Co. prior to 1850.
 • 1820 census: A Philemon Plummer is found for Caroline Co., MD. (In the 1900 census George Plummer's father is listed as born in MD; this is not noted in the 1880 census.)
