In the Hines family plot in 1996: the large 4-sided stone was broken; the long obelisk section lying to the right of the large marker belongs on top of it, and the smaller finial , atop of the large stone in the photo, belongs at the apex. Both the rounded stones to left and right are inscribed "J. H.", perhaps for Jane Hines, mother and daughter. Two additional small stones to the right are illegible.
In 2007 the obelisk and finial sections had been totally removed.

Conjecture
- Is Susan Hines Gibson also Susannah Hines Brannan? From the biographical sketch of Robert Barron, (p. 1244, 1895 Hist. of Butler Co.) grandson of Susan Hines, it is apparent that all of the children of Richard Hines eventually immigrated to America. Susan Hines was married in Ireland to James Gibson, and their daughter Margaret Gibson married David Barron. David left wife Margaret and son Robert Barron in Ireland, came to the U.S. and died in Steubenville, OH. Margaret remarried to George Dixon. Robert Barron came to the U.S. when age 17, (so, about 1849), and shortly went to live with his grandmother Susan Gibson of Worth Twp., Butler Co. Therefore, Susan must have immigrated before 1849. As the biography does not mention his grandfather, it is possible that Susan Hines Gibson immigrated after her husband James Gibson died in Ireland (or,that Robert Barron came to live with her after James Gibson died in the U.S.). In any case, she appears to be a widow.
Our ancestor William Brannan married a Susanna Hines, and the question remains whether she was the daughter of Richard Hines. If so, it would be her second marriage. Born in 1776, she would be aged about 73 in 1849, although she may have immigrated much earlier. Was she the 2nd wife of Wm. Brannan and not the father of his children, of did William marry a different Susannah Hines? William and Susanna Brannan are buried together at Wolf Creek cemetery, as is usual for the parents of children to be buried together, when there is more than one spouse.
The Wm. Brannan and Richard Hines families do have the connection that Elizabeth Brandon, daughter of Wm. Brannan, married Richard Hines, Jr. If Susannah were a daughter of Richard Hines, then Elizabeth Brandon would be marrying her uncle, which is extremely unlikely. We conclude that this Susannah Hines is not the daughter of Richard, but expect some relationship not yet established.
- In Hines Genealogies, and on p. 862 of 20th Century History of Butler & Butler Co. it is stated that Richard Hines served in the Revolutionary War, from March 1777 to April 1778 per the Hines Genealogies. If this is true, he came to America alone, fought in the war, and then returned to Ireland for a number of years, if we are to believe the report in The Wimer Family, the 1895 History of Butler County, and the 1850 US Census that his children were all born in Ireland. Richard Hines' children were born in 1772, '74, '76, 1780, and later. He could have been absent from Ireland in 1777-78.
- Searches for Richard Hines in the 1810 and 1800 census data on Ancestry.com yielded no viable candidates. In 1810, there were Richard Hines heads of household in VA and NC, and a Richard Hins in SC, but none had a male over 45. Richard Hines should be nearly 60. A search of Muddy Creek and Slipperyrock Twps gave no Hines families, but there were two listed as Mires (or Mirer). One had a male >45. This household was headed by a J.(?) Mires. The penmanship is not totally clear, but the script differs from H's elsewhere in that document. The only Hines family in PA that had both male and female individuals old enough to be Richard and his wife was headed by a "John Hines" and was in Dauphin Co. Several Hines household in PA had males >45 in the 1800 census, but none was particularly well placed to match our previous information. It is unclear from previous data that Richard was "in country" at the time of this census.
- The 1830 Census for Slippery Rock Twp, Butler Co, shows a Richard Hanes, with family members suitably aged to be both Richard Hines and Richard Hines Jr. 1 male <5, 2 males 5-10 , 1 male 10-15, 2 males 15-20, 1 male 40-50, 1 male 70-80; 1 female <5, 1 female 40-50, 1 female 70-80 (and possibly 1 female 30-40). These ages and the location fit with the 1840 census data above (source 3) but cause conflict with the 1830 census data listed in source 2.
