He was a 1955 graduate of Franklin HS. He attended Defiance College in Ohio and later Temple Univ. in Philadelphia where he earned a degree in Optometry. He served in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant while serving at Lackland AFB in Texas. He practiced optometry in Franklin until 1980 when he moved his poractice to Rome and Whitesboro, NY Surviving are two brothers: Dr. James Vergis and wife Rosemary of Wycombe and Michael Vergis and wife Joan of Rome, NY; and a sister: MAry Denk and husband William of Dublin, OH; and a special friend: Deborah Sartain of Rome, NY. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles also survive. He was preceded in death by his father in 1974 and his mother in 2004. Services at the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Seneca, Cranberry Twp. at 2 pm on Monday, Rev. Jack Kyle, retired Presbyterian pastor, officiating. Interment in the Franklin Cemetery. | ||

Born 21 Apr 1933 in Oil City to William B. Heeter, Sr. and Ruth Anna Webster. He was raised in the family home in Emlenton RD 1. He graduated from White Memorial HS in Knox and joined the US Navy in 1951. He was stationed at the Memphis NAS. He married his first wife, Irene there and they travel to North Africa where he was stationed for two years. On his return, he studied drafting at Indiana Tech. College in Ft. Wayne, IN. He worked for Bell Labs in Marietta, GA, Philco/Ford Aerospace/NASA in Mt. View, CA, and the Johnson Space Center in Houston, arriving there 3 Jan 1964 with his wife, a daughter Leslie and infant son Thomas. He had a heart transplant 15 May 1987, with his new wife Patricia by his bedside. Survived by wife PAtricia Cline Holmes, daughterLeslie Heeter Lundquist of Houston; son Thomas Webster Heeter of Corning, CA; grandson Christopher Martin Lundquist of Houston, his former wife Irene . Heeter of Corning, CA; stepson Marion Lee Holmes of Temple, TX; stepdaughter Judy Holmes Goode of Dallas, TX and former daughter-in-law Linda Hobbs of Houston. Also: brother William B. Heeter of Kennerdell, two sisters: Eleanor Hitchcock of Seneca and Jane Bump of Rockville, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Jack; sisters Beatrice Heeter Schaefer, Dorothy Heeter Switzer and an infant sister. Services in Emlenton and burial nearby. | ||
